Annual Mass on Memorial Day

Our annual open air Memorial Day Masses are a longstanding tradition for our community, and are held to pay homage to all of the Veterans who have been laid to rest here on our grounds. Many organizations and community members come in the weeks leading up to Memorial Day to place flags on graves to pay tribute to our fallen heroes. Every year, hundreds of people attend the 10 a.m. Mass under a tent in St. Joseph's Field of the Sacred Heart. Monsignor William Helmick of nearby St. Theresa of Avila Church in West Roxbury is the celebrant.

At Holyhood, over 100 people gather for a 9 a.m. Mass celebrated by Father Jack Ahern, former Pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption parish in Brookline. Families of those buried at the cemeteries, many of whom were veterans, and those who live nearby or who have moved away often return each year for the ceremonies.
